I'm pretty hollow on the victories tonight in NJ and VA. Both offices were held by the democrats, prior to the election, so it's just holding ground. Further- the republican candidate in Virginia was a bizarre streak of urine who made Bush look like a Rhodes Scholar- beating him was no big victory.
But- Fox "News" lives up to the standard of journalism that has made it the shameless GOP propaganda organ that it is. At around 9:30, VA and NJ had been called for the dems, on the front page of every news site that I visited- including the BBC, and strangely enough, Newsmax (google it- I'm not gracing them with a direct link.)
Then, I swung by fox "news" dot com, and woah- nothing on the index page- let's go to the "Politics" link- hmn- damn- lotsa links- let's do a "CTRL-F" and search...
OH- There it is! While every other news organization had claimed the states for the democrats, Fox "News" had a sub-page link, below the fold, saying "Democrats lead in VA and NJ vote."
Fair and balanced, my ass.
I just checked, at 11:35, and they've finally put it as a bullet on their front page. Nice going, Fox.
Myself, I voted Green.
Oh- and- reading Al Franken's "The Truth- With Jokes"- it rocks- read it, or die in slacklessness.
A rather unremarkable slideshow, I know- but these days, I really can't make nuanced statements worthy of the New Yorker, when it comes to this war.
In recent weeks, It's become clear to a majority of americans that this war was based on a lie. Now- as much as the conservative side would like to hem and haw- well- they need to just shut up- this war was based on a lie.
Now, while I'd like to be a hardass, and criticise these johnny-come-latelies for finally unplugging themselves from the matrix, I'll refrain. The propaganda assult they endured for the two years leading up to the war was relentless. Maybe, along with their newfound awakening to the facts, they've done a tad of reflection, and realized how quickly they can be seduced by lies- the Germans learned this lesson, and maybe, we can show the same level of societal maturity, and be every wit as wise to learn from this colossal fit of collective stupidity.
But- I still believe- every american who still thinks this war is a good idea- I challenge you- expel your feces, of step away from the pot.
I want you armchair psychopaths who spend six hours a day posting to right-wing newsgroup circle-jerks about how great this war in Iraq is, to step up the the plate.
Take two steps back from your keyboards, and get your mom to drive you to the local recruitment station. I want you to sign on the dotted line and specifically tell your recruiter that you want to serve in Iraq.
These days, Basic is about 6-8 weeks, so within 2 months, you can ship out to the battlefield that you continue to exalt in the comfort of your Ikea office chairs.
Let's see how much time you have to post to free republic, once you get there...
As I've oft stated in times past- I love to be proven wrong.
I mean, just about every prediction I've made concerning the Bush Bowl's ruinous actions and policies has come to pass, with terrible, predictable results. I don't like being right, in this regard.
But- a month ago, when Bush's approval ratings plunged past those enjoyed by Nixon during his darkest days, I said to myself (after laughing and dancing about the apartment), that Bush had reached his lowest point.
But, in a stunning re-afirmation of the good nature of the american people, another 4% have abandoned this administration, and, well- it's now official:
Bush is now the most unpopular "president" in the history of polling, in this country. Roll that around your mouth for a while, and taste the sweet flavor of the words:
"Bush is the most unpopular president- ever."
What a difference a year makes!
Now- let's put this in perspective: By a margin of 5%, more americans believe astrology is grounded in concrete science, than approve of Bush. 37% of americans sincerely believe that aliens have secretly contacted our government- 2 percentage points more than those who approve of the job Bush is doing.
Cheney's numbers? Adultery enjoys more support, by two points, and Cheney is less popular than school corporal punishment, by seven points.
Don't believe me? Check the numbers here.
Will the numbers continue to head south? I dunno- but I sincerely hope so. But here's what gets me:
In the weeks ahead, we'll be hearing from the "moderate" democratic pundits, cautioning the activist community:
"We, as a nation, can't afford a failed presidency"
Screw that- we already HAVE a failed presidency- we've had a failed presidency, since the the day that Bush was sworn into his first ill-gotten term.
The lower Bush's numbers tumble- the more we have to fight- the rat is cornered, and it's time to re-double our efforts, bring out the D-con, and put this sorry beast out our misery. The fewer supporters this bastard has, the fewer will stand against us, as we close in for the (metaphorical) kill.
No mercy- no retreat- don't give these bastards one inch. If you question the need to do so, I will end, tonight, with an e-mail I recieved, this evening, from one of the remaining, sorry 35%:
President had the balls to take on these terrorist assholes and not back down. We are kicking their ass and give Bush the credit for not being a pussy like the "impeached" former president who would rather have his knob sucked while in the office by an intern than pursue Bin Laden when he could have. Bush had the balls to kill these terrorist fucks and we are not backing down. Bush won both elections and your shitty party is the minority. Quit being an anti-american and start supporting our troops and our government. I look forward to your party losing another election. Ha-ha-ha.
(cut and pasted- this was what was sent- diction, grammar, and all.)
Don't let this mindset be the voice of your country- let's finish this criminal regime, now.
(oh- one last note- during his impeachment, Clinton had a 61% approval rating- and it rose to 70% afterwards- 'nuff said.)
Your government, on the basis of outrageous lies, is waging a murderous and utterly illegitimate war in Iraq, with other countries in their sights.
Your government is openly torturing people, and justifying it.
Your government puts people in jail on the merest suspicion, refusing them lawyers, and either holding them indefinitely or deporting them in the dead of night.
Your government is moving each day closer to a theocracy, where a narrow and hateful brand of Christian fundamentalism will rule.
Your government suppresses the science that doesn't fit its religious, political and economic agenda, forcing present and future generations to pay a terrible price.
Your government is moving to deny women here, and all over the world, the right to birth control and abortion.
Your government enforces a culture of greed, bigotry, intolerance and ignorance.
People look at all this and think of Hitler — and they are right to do so. The Bush regime is setting out to radically remake society very quickly, in a fascist way, and for generations to come. We must act now; the future is in the balance.
Millions and millions are deeply disturbed and outraged by this. They recognize the need for a vehicle to express this outrage, yet they cannot find it; politics as usual cannot meet the enormity of the challenge, and people sense this.
There is not going to be some magical "pendulum swing." People who steal elections and believe they're on a "mission from God" will not go without a fight.
There is not going to be some savior from the Democratic Party. This whole idea of putting our hopes and energies into "leaders" who tell us to seek common ground with fascists and religious fanatics is proving every day to be a disaster, and actually serves to demobilize people.
But silence and paralysis are NOT acceptable. That which you will not resist and mobilize to stop, you will learn — or be forced — to accept. There is no escaping it: the whole disastrous course of this Bush regime must be STOPPED. And we must take the responsibility to do it.
And there is a way. We are talking about something on a scale that can really make a huge change in this country and in the world. We need more than fighting Bush's outrages one at a time, constantly losing ground to the whole onslaught. We must, and can, aim to create a political situation where the Bush regime's program is repudiated, where Bush himself is driven from office, and where the whole direction he has been taking society is reversed. We, in our millions, must and can take responsibility to change the course of history.
To that end, on November 2, the first anniversary of Bush's "re-election", we will take the first major step in this by organizing a truly massive day of resistance all over this country. People everywhere will walk out of school, they will take off work, they will come to the downtowns and town squares and set out from there, going through the streets and calling on many more to JOIN US. They will repudiate this criminal regime, making a powerful statement: "NO! THIS REGIME DOES NOT REPRESENT US! AND WE WILL DRIVE IT OUT!"
November 2 must be a massive and public proclamation that WE REFUSE TO BE RULED IN THIS WAY. November 2 must call out to the tens of millions more who are now agonizing and disgusted. November 2 will be the beginning — a giant first step in forcing Bush to step down, and a powerful announcement that we will not stop until he does so — and it will join with and give support and heart to people all over the globe who so urgently need and want this regime to be stopped.
This will not be easy. If we speak the truth, they will try to silence us. If we act, they will to try to stop us. But we speak for the majority, here and around the world, and as we get this going we are going to reach out to the people who have been so badly fooled by Bush and we are NOT going to stop.
The point is this: history is full of examples where people who had right on their side fought against tremendous odds and were victorious. And it is also full of examples of people passively hoping to wait it out, only to get swallowed up by a horror beyond what they ever imagined. The future is unwritten. WHICH ONE WE GET IS UP TO US.
These next days are crucial. The call you are reading has to get out to millions right away — on the internet, passed out as flyers in communities, published as ads in newspapers. DO NOT WAIT!! GET ORGANIZED!! If you agree with this statement, add your name to it!!! And do more than that: send it to friends, get them to sign it, organize a meeting, take it to your church, your school, your union, your health club, your barber shop, to concerts and libraries and family gatherings, everywhere you go. Get people together, make plans to be there on November 2, and to build for it.
The world can't wait! Drive out the Bush Regime! Mobilize for November 2!
From The World Can't Wait.
No new animation tonight- many apologies- I spent the weekend plowing through image banks and audio files, and only got to the meat of the animation, yesterday. The good news is that the new piece is all blocked out, and synched, but there still remains about two days of audio editing and research, before it will be ready.
Quality before quantity, after all.
Seriously- It's apparent that Rove took a few minutes off from meetings with his lawyers, to staunch the hemmorrhaging in the presidency that he engineered.
For the past three months, the Bush bowl has been in a freefall- Cindy Sheehan, Katrina, Wilma, 2000 deaths in Iraq, Tom Delay, Scooter- all bad news, with no relief in sight.
The Bush Bowl has rolled with the punches, and figured that they could continue on with the stern confidence of a sleepwalker, as they could count on their religious right ("Extra-Chromosome republicans" as the late Lee Atwater called them) to stay true to them, no matter what idiocy they rolled out, under the guise of policy.
But then came the the Miers debacle. OOPS!
Even the charismatic christian "talking snake theory" nutjobs rebelled at that.
In this darkest and most dire time for this cadre of killers, Rove emerged from his secure lawyer-padded panic room, dropped a dime on Jesus Jr, and told him that his one hope of salvaging his last ounce of approval was to circle his wagons, and pander to his bible-thumping base, before this schizophrenic core constituency abandoned him, in favor of a giant inflatable halloween lawn-ornament spider.
And thus, we were introduced to Scalito, this morn.
And what a catch he is. He digs unauthorized strip searches without warrant- even if you're a 12-year old girl who just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He believes it was unconstitutional for the government to mandate that employers give a few unpaid days off to people who were in the midst of a family medical emergency. He believes, heart and soul, that corporations have every right to do whatever the hell they want, without any restriction from the mean ol' US guv'mint, while individual citizens should be grateful they are allowed to draw breath.
And, of course, as it has been made widely known, this asshole (sorry- but I calls 'em as I sees 'em) believes that a woman should, hat in hand, come crawling to her husband, for written permission, when it comes to decisions concerning her reproductive health.
Read more, here.
This is the definitive moment, for the democratic party. Unless these shiftless, good-for-nothing spineless idiots (apologies to Dennis Kucinich, Barbara Boxer, and the congressional black caucus) fight to the bitter end over this nomination, I'm done with them, for good.
I Just hadda mention this:
The day after the 2000th casualty was reported in Iraq, I awoke to my morning yogurt and coffee, and turned on CNN (I know, I know...)
When the news-o-rama came about to the subject of the corpses coming out of Iraq, the one person they chose to interview on the subject was a 1000-dollar-suit wearing pundit from some obscure washington think tank, who declared that the mounting death toll was meaningless, because, well- Iraqis had stopped buying gold.
Ya see- Iraq is now a land of opportunity and unparalelled wealth- didn't ya know that? Here's the theory: when Iraqis were uncertain about their futures, they bought gold boullion, since it was hard currency in times of trouble.
Since our benevolent occupation, sales of gold boullion have tanked, in Iraq. This talking head, who had undoubtably spent 250 bucks on a quick visit to his local hairstylist before presenting himself to the cameras, offered this obscure factoid as proof that all was good in Iraq, and that 2,000 american lives (not to mention 100,000-plus iraqi lives) were just deposits on a bonanza of wealth, just around the corner.
Ex-squeeze me? Where did they find this idiot?
Never mind the fact that those Iraqis who could afford to buy gold had long fled the cesspit that Iraq has become- never mind the fact that 99.9% of Iraqis are scraping a living in conditions that the inner-city poor here in the united states would laugh at- never mind that almost 100 americans, and 100 times as many Iraqis have died, in the last month, in this childish misadventure...
THE IRAQIS AREN'T BUYING GOLD, ANYMORE- HALLELUJA!
Check this out- this is a list of the "coalition" soldiers who have died, this past month, alone.
On second thought- don't bother- because their sacrifice is meaningless- IRAQIS AREN'T BUYING GOLD, ANYMORE! Small price to pay.
Where do they find these idiots?
It's just the chickens coming home to roost. The arrogance and incompetence of the Bush Bowl is slowly, but surely emerging into the clear light of day. The republicans, and their shills in the corporate media are continuing to stonewall, it's only a matter of time before the next few scandals erupt.
I could take heart in this, but people are still dying in Iraq.
On that note- I have to go and get to work on the new animation- hopefully out on monday...
Cindy Sheehan has followed up on her promise to be arrested, time and again, until Bush agrees to meet with her. On wednesday morning, she led a "die-in" in front of the white house, and was promptly arrested. She went back, and was arrested again.
Now, DC police have said that the next time that Sheehan is arrested, they will hold her in jail, until January.
What will be the charge? "Excessive public mourning?" This is downright absurd.
Do the DC police have any knowledge of history? The Alabama police put Martin Luther King in the pokey, and well- did that stop the civil rights movement? The communist regime in the erstwhile Czechoslovakia jailed Vaclav Havel for years- did that stop the Velvet Revolution? They put Nelson Mandella in Jail for 25 years- did the ANC just shut down, and go away?
The threatened incarceration of Cindy Sheehan will only add logs to a fire whose flames already lap at the walls of the white house.
These folks just don't understand whet they're dealing with- it's downright childish- they assume that if the symbol is removed from public view, the movement will die- and it just ain't so.
I was fighting against this war for two years, before I even heard of Cindy- do they think I'll shut up, if she's put in jail? Do they think Mykeru, BradBlog, Crooks and Liars, Dickeatsbush, Peacetakescourage, The World Can't Wait, and the majority of americans opposed to this war will turn to other pursuits, if they put this brave woman in jail?
Do they think that Air America Radio will stop broadcasting, if they just put this troublesome gadfly behind bars? Do they think that Code Pink, and the American Friends Service Committee will shut down, and just give up?
The powers that be just don't have one inkling as to what they're dealing with here. It's greater than Cindy Sheehan- it's greater than any of the organizations or blogs I've mentioned above.
They're dealing with a force greater than any corporate media outlet. Greater than the bombast of Hannity, Limbaugh, O'reilly, Beck, and the rest of the sorry bastards that the mainstream media have relied upon to frame public discourse.
They're having to come face-to-face, at long last, with us- the majority of the american public who have stood against this administration, and this war- this senseless charade that has claimed the lives of so many of the innocent- but this great and dishonest betrayal of the people's trust will not be defeated, without a fight.
Much like a cornered rat, the right wing punditry has begun lashing out, indiscriminately, while the their dreams of empire and unquestioned power crash about them.
The democrats seem unable, or unwilling, to press the initiative, and put an end to this sorry chapter in american history. The greens are too weak. The republicans have sold out, on every level.
Who then, is to lead this country out of this sorry state?
Look in the mirror.
You are the one you have been waiting for. Buck up, gird yourself for battle, and get into the fray- if you don't know how to get involved, just type "activism" and the name of your state or town into google. Yeah, it may mean losing an hour of TV time, or an hour away from your favorite blog or message board, but it'll pay dividends that will enrich your life, beyond measure.
Become the change you want to see, and we'll all meet in better times...
Until then- keep fighting.
Seriously- dead seriously- remember when the one scandal we had to worry about, was whether or not the president had lied about getting a bit of oval-office nookie?
Here's the deal: If Bill Clinton had installed a revolving door in the white house, through which streamed a mile-long file of large-nosed, pudgy white house aides, whom, upon entering, would strip, and take their place among a pile of their cohorts straddling Bill Clinton's naked, prostrate body, while C-Span cameras broadcast the steaming heap of flesh, live, to every household in the united states, the offense would be minor, compared to the death of one, single american in a war based on lies.
Much less 2,000.
I have a feeling that many of you don't know how much 1,000 is, really. Yes- it's 20 times 50- the square root of 1,000,000, and the number of meters in a kilometer. But these aren't numbers- these are PEOPLE. On the occasion of the 1,000th death in Iraq, I created this animation, which shows you exactly what 1,000 names look like. Take a look- if you're bored halfway through, tough- watch it to the end. These people have DIED- the least you can do is spend three minutes of your life seeing their names.
But that was yesterday- now, there are twice as many dead. In fact, it's likely that two to three times as many have died, in the meatgrinder of Iraq, since the DOD doesn't count those who have died in, or en route to, military hospitals outside of Iraq.
I could wax on and on, and try to be eloquent about this whole mess, but I can't.
This government- this administration- is a grim reaper which walks to and fro across this world, feet ankle-deep in blood. They know nothing else, but to facilitate and create death, on a massive scale. They are murderers- evil, corrupt, lying sowers of death that are bereft of the fundamental concept of humanity, and compassion.
Bush and his republican cohorts flaunt their adherence to a culture of life, by passing a midnight resolution to "save" the life of a brain-dead woman, but they turn a blind eye, while thousands die in Iraq and New Orleans. Bush vacations while soldiers die, and the poor starve.
I am emotionally numb, tonight. I cannot convey the anger that should be within me. I cannot relate the sadness that I feel.
All I feel within me, is an emptiness that goes beyond words. I wish I could be happy, considering today will most likely be Fitzmas, but I can't...
The Freeper right can't be bothered with such weaknesses- they're continuing their "yay war" messaging 'round the clock at Free Republic. Nice for them to be so brave, so resolute, so stalwart in their herculean efforts of mindlessly supporting a war that other people have to fight and die in.
Sickening- truly sickening.
Cindy Sheehan has returned to Washington DC, and will chain herself to the white house gates, until she is arrested. As soon as she's released from police custody, she'll head to the local hardware store, pick up a new set of chains and locks, and re-chain herself to the gates.
That woman has more cajones than the entire male half of Free Republic, combined.
Moveon.org is planning a nationwide vigil for the 2,000 (along with the 100,000-plus Iraqi dead), tonight. Click here to find a vigil in your area, or to host your own.
As before- I will be hosting my own vigil- and, as before, I invite all of you right-wing cowards who have threatened me, in times past, to grow a pair, and meet me, face-to-face.
New Media, tomorrow- a new animation is in the works- I've spent the evening gathering photos of the most horrific nature, for the project (due to be completed, on Monday.)
I'm sick of playing nice. Today, I watched Bush speaking to a hand-picked audience of military officer's wives, and when he launched into his standard diatribe about why the war in Iraq is so damned necessary, I was floored.
He didn't even try. He leaned, slouching, on the podium, belching out his talking points, one by one, in a weary voice whose undertones conveyed a clear message:
"I'm sick of having to explain this to you damned peons. Rove told me that Fox News had explained it to ya'll- why am I having to do this, again?"
And this time- I watched closely- and damned if the rumors weren't right- His jaw was wobbling to and fro, like crazy- Whenever he wasn't talking, he had a tooth-grinding act going on that was freaky.
I've seen this before- in cocaine addicts. The national enquirer broke the story, in the wake of Katrina, that Bush had returned to the bottle- but now, it looks like he's sending out some unlucky white house page to inner-city DC to pick up some of that peruvian blue flake.
Now- this can't be good- it really can't.
45-65% of Iraqis surveyed support attacks against British troops. Now- to be fair: I'm willing to bet the numbers would be higher, in the survey, had the word "British" been replaced by "American", but, alas, such a survery will never be undertaken by a pentagon so in love with its own image. It took the Brits to have the cajones to ask such a telling question, and accurately report the results.
Remember- Dick Cheney told us, four months ago, that the insurgency was in its "last throes."
Consider- attacks against occupation troops in Iraq now, at the very least, have a 45% approval rating in Iraq. Bush, by the most recent polling, enjoys a 39% approval rating, here, in the US...
It's now official: given the choice between suicide bombings, and Bush, percentage-wise: more would go with suicide bombings.
I'll have to hand it to Bush- when a sitting head of state- in any country- can become less popular than driving a explosive-laden car into a bus stop filled with civilians, that gives one pause.
Screwing up, at that magnitude, is downright awe-inspiring.
As much as I enjoyed seeing DeLay's mugshot...
I took one look, and immediately, it struck me- "This guy's grinning like 'Bob!'" It would have been funny, had I not been piqued enough to put these two side by side:
This is pretty damned earth-shaking. Naturally, the pipe is gone, since police stations are "non smoking" areas- but it's plain that "Bob" is walking among us- and has been "The Hammer" behind the Pink Conspiracy in the halls of congress! DAMN you, "Bob"!
It makes perfect sense- he's working to hasten the coming of July 5th, 1998 (X-Day)- for only through the insane policies of the republican right can the X-ist beings be persuaded to come and save the true descendents of the Yeti...
Enough prattling- gotta work on a new animation...
Libby's next- then, if one dares to dream, Rove. If Cheney is forced to step down, I will die a happy man...
The PlameGate controversy will boil down to one conviction, and one conviction only- Cheney aide "Scooter" Libby will fall upon his sword, in the days ahead, and play his part as the sacrificial lamb. As much as I'd like to see Cheney and Rove indicted, it just ain't gonna happen. The Bush crime family has a long-established strategy, when it comes to scandals: admit no wrongdoing, and when that fails, offer up a minor official (such as "doin' a fine job Brownie") to act as a fall guy, to absorb all of the criticism, until the next scandal erupts.
However, that doesn't mean that Libby will have to languish long, without a congressional medal of honor. There's no law that says a convicted felon can't recieve the citation, after all.
Because it meant jack-all. A few months back, after the Iraqi parliamentary "elections", while the republicans were wetting themselves in joy over the event, I maintained that the "election" had been a sham, and meant nothing.
I warned that no matter how many republicans waved around ink-stained fingers, the insurgency would continue to expand. I cautioned that it didn't matter that 30% of elligible voters ventured out to cast votes- Americans and Iraqis would continue to die- but in greater numbers, than ever before.
In the intervening months, I have been proven right. Just as that "election" meant nothing, this "election" is equally meaningless. Hundreds of americans have died, and thousands of Iraqis have died, since the previous "election"- and it will only get worse, in the days and months ahead.
But here's what gets me:
This "election" has produced downright stunning results: 98%- 97%- 99% of Iraqis supposedly voted in favor of a constitution that was written by their benevolent american occupiers.
Uhh- ex-squeeze me?
Are we to believe that 98% of the people who have suffered the worst imaginable depredations upon their society, at our hands, are going to vote, so overwhelmingly, for a constitution that we wrote?
This "election" was a farce- a fakery, and a farce.
Do I cheer this? Do I dance in the blood that the lies of the government that purports to speak in my name sheds so easilly and callously? No- I do not. I hate this grand opera of fakery and murder that continues to be dressed in flowers and false promises.
I have lost count of the times, in the past five years, that I have stayed awake at night, hoping, earnestly, and honestly, that I will be proven wrong, and that this cascade of death and lies will come to an end.
But it won't. It will not stop, until we force this gaggle of killers and psycopaths from power- and as always- it's up to you.
Get involved here.
In the wake of Katrina, Bush promised a Johnsonesque "war on poverty".
Words- just words.
After promising 200 billion of no-bid contracts for his buddies at halliburton, Bush left it to his republican cohorts in the congress to raise the hue and cry against big government spending, and fight for the interests of the taxpayers
Where are we to get these 200 billion dollars? In a time of war, and unprecidented natural disaster, the republican congress steps to the fore, and is demanding that Bush's tax cuts be rescinded, and that the richest 2% of the country pay their fair share, in the cause of collective sacrifice, in these rough times.
Yeah- and if you believe that- I have a bridge in the mojave you might be interested in.
Nope- the republican congressional majority seeks solutions to the current crisis in 50 billion in cuts to Medicare for the poor and the elderly, student aid, food stamp programs, and pension loans.
The poor and disadvantaged are being asked to bear the brunt of this budget shortfall- and this is wrong. This is unconscionable, unjust, and downright un-american.
the solution? As always- it's up to you. Get in touch with your congresspeople, and demand that they stand up against this insanity.
You can reach your congreessperson at www.congress.org.
Personally, I got an actional alert about this topic from moveon.org, but they didn't deign to send me a root page to re-direct folks like ya'll to an easy page for resources- they need to get on the ball- seriously...
Okay- I admit, as much as I hate this batch of killers and fascists who have taken over our government, I must admit- they are still able to give us a good laugh, from time to time.
As just about 90% of ya'll are aware, on thursday last, the Bush team decided that it was high time that Bush show off his easy rapport with the soldiers on the ground in Iraq. After two months of sheer disaster, the administration decided to schedule a media event that would show Jesus Jr as an "in command" kinda guy.
And boy, this was a farce for the history books.
At face value, the event was classic Bush. Watching what little of it I did, I was struck by Bush's performance. He was in full-scale deer-in-the-headlights mode- twitching and stumbling through his delivery, in a way that makes his usual speaking style look positively shakespearean, in comparison.
The prize of the whole show goes to the hapless Iraqi brought in for the show, Sgt. Major Akeel, who'se only contribution to the event was a streak of obsequious drivel, capping it off with a hearty "I LIKE YOUSE!!!". Strange- the only Iraqi they could find speaks like an east Jersey cab driver.
As we are all well aware of, by now, the whole event was staged, down to the timing of the delivery of the pre-scripted lines by both the "president", and the soldiers involved.
How do we know? Because some brainwave at the white house control room left the cameras on, and the sattelite feed live, while pentagon staffers were feverishly engaged in pre-event oritentations. DOH!
The Bush Bowl had better pray that Rove can dodge his indictments- he's been away for less than a week, and they can't even pull off a photo-op properly, anymore.
It only got jucier, 48 hours later, when the village voice disclosed that Corine Lombardo, a military spokeswoman, was one of the "boots on the ground" that took part in the event.
That's the Bush white house for you- completely oblivious to the fact we live in an age in which names can be instantly researched via the web, for anyone who can access google...
I'm late to the whole issue, so I really cannot add anymore to the tons of excellent reportage that has been done, on the issue. Check out the following video links, for more info (WMV format):

Simple Scotty stonewalls, here
Seriously- I mean this heartfeltly, and honestly. My thanks are offered without one, single bit of irony, or sarchasm. I want to thank you for your arrogance.
In the shadow of your arrogance, Camp Casey evolved from the protest of one grieving parent, into a rallying point for the antwar majority here in the country you ostensibly govern.
Further, I want to thank you for your selfishness.
While you were hiding from Cindy, in Crawford, your indifference and hubris, in the face of the immesaurable human misery that played out on the gulf coast was amazing. While thousands starved, you played golf, in arizona. Never before has the republican disdain for human life been displayed, so nakedly.
Lastly, George, I want to thank you for your ineptitude as a leader.
Your republican cronies in the state houses might be able to swing the votes in your favor, time and time again- and ya know what? I welcome this. I really do. I want 25 Katherine Harrises and 25 Keneith Blackwells to take over every election that takes place, in this country. Further, I want your friends at diebold to steal every elected office for your cronies- I want every level of government to be taken over by your sick brand of neoconservative, homophobic, misogynist, racist republican. I want 100 DeLays in the house, and 50 Frists in the senate.
I want you to continue, and expand your regime of criminal incompetence to every corner of government.
And I know you will...
After your misbegotten term in government, and your policies have wrecked this nation for decades to come, there will come a time, when the republicans can't steal any more elections, and will face a crossroads: "be humble, move to the center, or die"
Just as your policies unwittingly made america weaker than ever before, your idology has turned the republican party into a corrupt freakshow of the radical "christian" right, that is becoming more and more marginalized, with each passing day.
Thank you, Mr. Bush- you have ensured that, once this national nightmare is over, that we'll never see your kind again.
See ya'll again, a week from now...
